Subject:Yard Debris in the Lake
Does anyone know if it's legal to dump your yard debris in the lake or also to get your lawn clean by blowing everything on the waters edge so when the lake comes up, it takes it away. While you're out boating, you will always see some homeowners doing this as you ride by their property, especially Jan. thru March.
I have the disadvantage of being on the side of the lake where the wind blows a lot of this stuff. There are right now piles of debris floating in the middle of the cove and eventually a lot of it will be in my yard. It looks like someone dropped wheelbarrow loads of debris and dumped it off their dock.
If any lake homeowners read this, please discourage your neighbor from these practices. It makes it harder for the elderly to keep their yards clean. They have a hard enough time keeping trash that comes from the woods surrounding the lake washing up.

There doesn't seem to be anything specifically about yard waste in the SCE&G policies and procedures for the Lake. Certainly if the folks who do this use fertilizer --- and especially especially if they use pesticide and herbicide --- this could be pretty damaging to the Lake ecosystem.

Yes, the debri is always heavier this time of year but it is far worse this year than most. I think it has to do with how high the water got and how quick it got there. We have had to tow a full 50' to 60' tree out from the pielings on our dock. The bad part is that untill I got about 20' away from it,I thought it was just a few small branches clustered together. I would hate for someone to have hit this thing at 30+MPH. Be carefull of what you are running over it may be much larger than you think.
