Pierce Makes 1st Ace!

Wells Pierce had his first hole-in-one on the 10th hole on the brand new South Carolina golf course Stonebridge par 3 at the “Caddy Shack” in Lexington SC! “I hit a six iron from 161 with a Bridgestone ball,” stated the elated Columbia golf phenom and junior at Brookland Cayce High School! It was the first recorded ace on the new South Carolina golf course!

The State newspaper’s All Area Girl’s High School Golf teams were announced and the Lexington Wildcats completely dominated 4A with every All Area player selected from this year’s championship team. Danielle Dunnagan was the 4A All Area Player of the Year with cousin Maureen Dunnagan, Kathryn Miranda, Kaylea Cole and Jordan Cole each earning All Area Honors. Collins Bradshaw of A.C. Flora was the 3A All Area Player of the Year with Sarah Johnson of Brookland Cayce, Tracey Cobb of Blythewood and Mary Chandler Bryan of Chapin each earning All Area Honors.

There are now approximately 10 girl’s high school teams in the midlands, which is fantastic for South Carolina golf!

There are many individuals in the Columbia golf community involved in the Irmo Chapin Winter Youth Golf Tour ranging from parent volunteers who serve as coaches to the caddy’s, the professionals and owners at the 16 different South Carolina golf courses on the rotation, Crooked Creek and Seven Oaks Parks, as well as the Chapin Optimist Club. There is another group of individuals that serve dual roles as advisors and sponsors of this program. Their South Carolina golf, Columbia golf VIP’s are responsible for ideas that ensure future growth of this 14 year old program and most have been an integral part of the support cast for almost ten years. Dr. Greg Wych, Rick & Rob Schoolmeester, Cheryl Loretan, George Elfering, Darryl Starkey, Steve Livingston, Tony Portwood, Tripp Berry, Dr. Carol French, David Herndon, Dave & Bill Dunnagan, Dr. John Pitner, Dr. Mark Kutyla, Kirk Morgan, Bill Walker, Randy Scott, Tony & Athena Cashion, Bob McClam and Jim & Melanie Bowers have all contributed their time, energy and resources!
