Recycle the Frustration

Columbia golf can be exhilarating one minute and frustrating the next! One hole you can be flawless and the next can be awful! Even the best, when they are “rolling hot”, must endure and accept the way golf is. J.B. Holmes, a young PGA Tour star wins one week and the next shoots a third round 78 and does not even get to play the final round the next week!

Negotiating frustration could be the most important skill a Columbia golf player can develop. Even the best South Carolina golf players know that 75% - 90% of their shots are going to misses and off line. These individuals accept these shots and the game better than others. The best South Carolina golf players negotiate bad holes, bad days and bad weeks better than most, while looking at tough situations, bad breaks, and horrible rounds as opportunity. That’s right; the best Columbia golf players recycle frustration into a “positive potion” and look at problems and challenges as a chance to grow.

Last week was cut week for most of the area high school golf teams. While there are many broken hearts in the South Carolina golf and Columbia golf communities, I know there may be a future All American, or PGA star among those who didn’t make the cut.

South Carolina golf enjoyed another beautiful Sunday afternoon on the Irmo Chapin Winter Youth Columbia Golf Tour! Timberlake Country Club hosted Carol French, DMD and Carolina Wings and it was Logan Biggers and Dillon Hite that led the way in their divisions.

The Ponderosa Club hosted three divisions of the finest of Columbia golf, Clemson Friends of Junior Golf, Coldwell Bankers and Colorglo International with South Carolina golf players Zack Heustess, Taylor Payne and William Sullivan being the medalists!

The Woodlands Country Club hosted Darryl Starkey, DEMS House of Diamonds and Friends of Junior Golf divisions, and it was Thomas Burke, Ryan McCarthy and Devin McGillan that were the leaders for each!
